Problems with a vehicle you have bought?

New or used, privately purchased or from a motor trader, financed or paid for outright — we help establish the contractual position, assess the evidence and decide whether rejection, compensation, repair or another remedy may be appropriate.

Purchasing or delivery arrangements do not automatically determine your cancellation rights. We assess where and how the agreement was concluded.

Where we can help

Not every purchase is governed by the same rules.

We assess the facts against the type of transaction, the parties involved, the condition and description of the vehicle and the steps already taken. Our role is to explain the strength and limits of the available position before further action is agreed.

01 · Trade sales

New and used vehicles from a dealer

Mechanical defects, repeated breakdowns, disputed repairs, warranty issues, potentially misleading descriptions and attempts to reject a vehicle or obtain another remedy.

02 · Private sales

Buying from another individual

Genuine private sales have different legal protections. We consider the description, representations, title and the evidence of what was agreed, including whether an apparent private seller was actually trading.

03 · Finance and payment

PCP, hire purchase and credit-card deposits

We examine who the contracting parties are, what the finance documents say and whether payments or financing create separate potential routes for redress. A credit-card deposit does not automatically make every lender liable.

04 · Contract and delivery

Online orders, showroom deals and home delivery

Where and when the purchase agreement became binding can matter more than where the car was collected or delivered. We can also consider associated warranties and GAP insurance where relevant.

Private seller or concealed motor trader? A seller's label is not conclusive. We assess the actual circumstances of the sale. If you were the seller, see our seller advisory service.
Purchaser assessment fees

From an initial view to a proper document assessment.

Start with the £50 Quick Check if you need to know whether the matter merits investigation. If you already have a purchase agreement, finance paperwork, repair history or extensive correspondence to examine, the £250 assessment will normally be the better fit.

Vehicle Dispute Quick Check

£50

  • Short written initial indication of the potential issues
  • Whether a substantive assessment may be worthwhile

If you begin with the £50 service

Nothing is lost by starting small. If you subsequently instruct the £250 assessment for the same vehicle dispute, the £50 Quick Check fee is credited in full towards it.

We will recommend the next step.

Where appropriate, further assistance with seller correspondence, finance-provider engagement, settlement negotiations or escalation may be available at a separately agreed fixed fee. A conditional fee or other funding arrangement may be considered only where lawful, suitable and available through the appropriate provider.

Nothing in the initial assessment includes issuing proceedings, contacting the seller, protecting time limits or pursuing claims on your behalf.

The £50 Quick Check fee is credited towards a £250 Vehicle Dispute Assessment for the same matter. The assessment begins only once the terms, scope and payment have been agreed; further work requires separate instructions.
